We want to share the harrowing experience we've faced in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which struck on September 26, 2024. The images of our home and office bear witness to the sheer devastation left in the storm's wake. It’s heart-wrenching to see the trauma that has not only impacted us but also reverberated through our entire community. 

We were inside our home when a towering tree came crashing down, mere feet from where we stood. This overwhelming moment occurred in our kitchen and dining room, as well as our bathroom, forcing us to confront the chaos of nature’s power. After enduring the fierce winds, we emerged at around 4:30 AM, adrenaline pumping as we hurried to clear the road outside our home. Our goal was to ensure emergency responders could navigate safely and reach others who were in urgent need of assistance.

At this moment, we find ourselves without power or water—a reality that has created an uncomfortable atmosphere in what used to be our sanctuary. The two large pine trees that fell in our house have not only compromised our living space but have also left us feeling vulnerable and exposed. As we navigate this uncertain terrain, we are desperately in need of assistance and a safe, stable place to call home.

While we are profoundly thankful for our safety, the emotional aftermath of the storm has been overwhelming. Our lives have been dramatically disrupted, leaving us struggling to find our footing again. Unlike many families in our area who experienced only minor damage or were fortunate enough to remain in their homes, we face a unique challenge. We have been turned away from our house and are currently living between several hotels for a few days at a time to keep our 15-year-old son, a merit-roll sophomore, engaged in his education amidst this turmoil.
